Aug 22. 2018 - today we learned how to form the Present Perfect since much of our first chapter of the book has many examples of this form. We will also have a quiz over Present perfect Friday Aug 31st.
We are starting a unit on the gangs of Los Angeles. We will be watchling Bajo el mismo cielo and reading La vida y muerte de la Mara Salvatrucha. Level 3 novel written in past tense.
This compelling drama recounts life (and death) in one of
the most violent and well-known gangs in Los Angeles, LaMara Salvatrucha. Joining MS-13 brings certain gang-related responsibilities, but being born into La Salvatrucha requires muchmore. Sometimes it even requires your life! This is a gripping story of one gang member’s struggle to find freedom.
Note: “Although this is not a true story, it is inspired by true events. It neither glorifies gang life nor promotes it. On the contrary, it paints a realistic picture of the pain, suffering and stress that gang life naturally causes and compels the reader to consider the human condition as it relates to our need for love, friendship, belonging and forgiveness.”
This story takes place in the city of Los Angeles. Carlos is an immigrant widower who works as a gardener to give the best he can to his youngest son, while bearing the pain of losing his eldest son to a gang. His life, full of sacrifices and hardships, takes a turn when he meets Adela, a beautiful and troubled gang member. Their connection is instantaneous, but their love will be threatened by street violence, injustice and fierce opposition from Felicia, his eternal admirer. Still, nothing can shake this humble man, whose goal in life is to be happy and live for those he loves.
We are jumping in with TPRS.
