Dual Credit Classes @ YHS

YHS College Dual Credit Options

*****College level classes are offered to juniors and seniors who are self-motivated independent learners.  Participation requires a high level of commitment from the student, therefore, each student will go through a screening process to be sure they are ready for this type of learning.  Typically, we look for students who have a “B” or better, regularly turn work in on time and are well organized.

Junior Year:     

1) Southeast Community College Career Academy (Academy Brochure)            

  • Most of the classes are taken online using Moodle
  • CNA is taken at Ashland or Wahoo
    • A Career Portfolio with weekly assignments is taken at the same time as the class
    • Grade is 20% Career Portfolio and 80% College Class
    • Cost is covered by YHS except for the books. 

              (CNA has a $90 fee to cover a criminal background chack and materials)

  • Students are required to put a deposit of half the tuition to cover the cost shall the student not pass the class.

                   2) Southeast Community College Dual Credit(DC) Courses (Southeast Handouts)

  • DC Advantage Courses
    • Taken online using Moodle with other high school students and a Southeast Teacher
    • Cost is the students responsibility, currently is $31.5 per credit hour, most classes are 4.5 – 6 credit hours
  • DC American History I & II taken at YHS with Mr. Mead
    • Typically transfers as a General Education Requirement
    • Cost is the students responsibility, currently is $33.75 per credit hour,

        American History I & II are each 4.5 credit hours each Semester which is $151.88.

         3) NEBRASKA NOW Course through UNL

  • College Credit (can only accept for Dual Credit if the teacher has a Nebraska Teaching Certificate)
    • Taken online using Moodle with other high school students and a UNL Teacher
    • GPA of a “B” or better and 22 ACT admissions Requirements

    • Cost is $250 set fee plus a $45 admissions fee, most classes are 3 credit hours

                 4) Distant Learning via TV/Interactive Teacher & Classroom

                    Go to www.esu2.org, Technology, Distant Learning Environment, NVIS - The Nebraska Virtual Instruction Source.  2016-17 Classes:  College Algebra, College Physics,

                    College Calculus I & II, HS Wildlife Management, HS Spanish I, HS German I, HS Sports Nutrition, HS Child Development & Parenting, CAD Architecture.

 

Senior Year:

    • DC American History I & II taken at YHS with Mr. Mead
      • Typically transfers as a General Education Requirement
    • English Composition 1st semester with Mrs. Eikmeier (English IV)
      • Typically transfers as a General Education Requirement
    • Intro to Literature 2nd semester with Mrs. Eikmeier (English IV)
      • Typically transfers as an Elective
    • General Biology full year with Mr. Sass (Advanced Biology)
      • Typically transfers as a General Education Requirement

 

    • Cost is the students responsibility, currently is $33.75 per credit hour,

        American History I, American History II, English Composition and Intro to Literature are all 4.5 credit hours each Semester which is $151.88.  General Biology is a full year course at 6         credit hours is $202.50.

Yutan High School/Southeast Community College

Career Academy/DUAL CREDIT Courses:

  • These are mainly online taught through the Moodle Program with the exception of the CNA course which is in Wahoo 2 days a week. 
  • Students will receive high school credit and college credit.
  • Students receive one period during the day to work on Academy Courses.
  • Tuition cost is free to students and paid for by YHS.
  • Book cost is the responsibility of the student.

Online & Distant Learning Courses:

  • College courses offered to high school juniors and seniors.
  • Online is taught through the moodle program.
  • Distant Learning is taught by instructor via TV viewing.
  • Cost of tuition, fees and books are the responsibility of the student.

UNL NOW -  College Credit Courses:

  • College courses are offered to higher ability high school 9-12 grade students.
  • Qualifications are listed on the above website.
  • Tuition, fees and book cost is the responsibility of the student.
  • Tuition cost per class is a set rate of $250 for a 3 credit hour class plus the $45 admissions fee.
