Dear Students and Parents,
This will be brief newsletter to update you on scholarships and upcoming activities. Congratulations to the seniors who have already won scholarships! PLEASE let us know of these events so we may submit information to the newspapers and announce at Graduation; unfortunately not all colleges share that information with the high school. Seniors are to turn in a senior picture with a baby picture and a friend picture for the senior video by March 30th to Mrs. Arensberg or Mrs. Dooley. Mrs. Wortman will also need one picture for the newspaper and the front entrance display.
If you have not completed the FAFSA you are encouraged to do that as soon as possible. Many colleges have priority deadlines that may be anywhere from March 1st to April 15th. SENIORS, YOU SHOULD BE CHECKING YOUR COLLEGE ONLINE ACCOUNTS TO BE SURE YOU COMPLETE ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS AND THAT YOU DIDN’T GET SELECTED FOR VERIFICATION. IF YOU MISS A DEADLINE YOU WILL LOSE OUT. Some colleges are still doing this all through the mail so be sure to check your letters in that case. Even if you do not qualify for a pell grant the FAFSA is the process to use for federal college loans and work-study. Therefore, all seniors are encouraged to complete this process.
Juniors should be preparing for the next National ACT exam on April 13th. The regular deadline to register for this exam is March 8th. The next registration deadline for the June 8th test date is May 4th. Spring is a good time to start taking college visits while students are still in session. It is also time to do some scholarship searching! You can find these web addresses on the guidance webpage. If your child will be the first to attend college in your family please check out the “I’m First” Symposium at go.unl.edu/first. By attending this Symposium you will qualify to apply for an “Emerging Leaders” scholarship at UNL. Please see the enclosed letters for information on the Junior Job Shadow Day on March 20th and the District ACT exam that will be given to all juniors as the state assessment on April 2nd.
Check the Guidance Webpage on the high school website at www.yutanpublicschools.com. Currently we have scholarship deadlines, announcements, resource links and much more. If you have information that you believe would be helpful to post on this site let me know.
